Australian Indigenous studies

Variously described as interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and cross-disciplinary Australian Indigenous studies in higher education today exists to provide Indigenous and non-Indigenous students with an understanding of the "knowledge, cultures, histories and contemporary concerns of Australia's First People" (Nakata et al., 2012, p. 121), and equipping them for working and engaging in a culturally responsive and appropriate way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
